Tasting Note: A blend of the three Champagne varieties, slightly heavier on the Chardonnay, this is a crisp, citrussy sparkling wine with subtle notes of brioche and white flowers; in the mouth it is fruity, honeyed and moreish.
Food Matching: There is no specific drinking occasion for the Brut Reserve. Its elegance and lightness gives it a flexibility to be the champagne for the moment but it is always excellent as an aperitif.
Unique Selling Point: Taittinger is not a well-known brand, but it is probably the finest champagne in the world. – Bond explained to his companion, from Casino Royale (1953) Any wine can be light, good wine is intense, only fine wine is both. This is light and elegant, with rich and creamy fruit.
Production Method: Colour: Deep straw cast. Nose: Crisp, citrusy aromas show a subtle, toasty note. Palate: Medium-bodied. High acidity. Moderately extracted. Displays an elegant and balanced impression on the palate, with lively mousse. Crisp and flavourful through the finish.
Vinification: The grapes for the Brut Reserve come from the prime vineyards throughout Champagne, with approximately 50% coming from the Taittinger estate. Produced each year from the first pressings of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay this is the definitive cuvée of Champagne Taittinger. It is a carefully balanced blend of wines from up to 25 different ‘crus’. It also includes a portion of reserve wine to ensure consistency from year to year. Prior to release the Brut Reserve is aged for 3-4 years giving the wine depth whilst allowing parts to become fully integrated.
